International Youth Council Projects 2008

Be the change you wish to see in this world--- WE are the change that we seek.

IYC PROJECTS 2008-- Wait till you see what we've done in 2009!

• GLACCIER - IYC is working on the GLACCIER Campaign (Global Legal Action for Climate Change for International Environmental Responsibility). The GLACCIER is a petition movement by the youth of the world to address the ongoing impact of climate change. We are building a great global case analysis working closely with top enviromental lawyers from around the world. Our goal is to mobilize the youth to change their lifestyles and petition the governments to bring about the necessary policy actions that will make this possible.

• CSD-17 - IYC members participated in the CSD-17: The Commission on Sustainment Development: Implementation Policy Session. We presented the GLACCIER Campaign, including the research of members across five UN member states who documented the effects of environmental degradation from climate change.

• GLOBAL SUMMIT - IYC became the co-founders of The Global Summit. The Global Summit is dedicated to empowering those most affected by critical issues in creating solutions. Youth are the primary stakeholder for a sustainable future. Our leadership in shaping The Global Summit’s guiding principles for each partner sector, general policies, and program strategy in our founding event was essential to the integrity of its purpose. Each voice of the youth represented by the IYC brought The Global Summit closer to the long-term fulfillment of its program mission.

• YOUTH PARLIAMENT OF THE GAMBIA - We acted in a consulting role with The National Youth Parliament of the Gambia while they planned a “youth empowerment” training program on democracy and effective leadership. We assisted a member in Uganda in writing a high-level grant proposal for an NGO Resource Center in his town.

• THREE DOT DASH - The IYC is a coalition partner with the “We are Family Foundation’s” Three Dot Dash Conference. Three Dot Dash is a global initiative designed to recognize and support the efforts of “Global Teen Leaders” around the world who are actively working on projects that promote a more peaceful society by addressing issues related to basic human needs: food, water, health, shelter, safety, education and the environment. The IYC has been actively recruiting mentors, global teen leaders, and volunteers for 2010 Three Dot Dash Conference.

• GLOBAL CONFERENCES - IYC members have been invited to participate at the 2009 World Bank Youth Conference, in Washington D.C., The 2009 Social Entrepreneur Conference in Canada, The 2008 MDG Global Summit in New Delhi, India, the World Youth Urban Forum in Shanghi, China, the G8 Student Partnership for Development Conference in the London, England and many other similar opportunities.

THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CLIMATE MOVEMENT FOR COP15

THE INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CLIMATE MOVEMENT FOR COP15

A message to the Youth of the World:

We need to mobilize for ambitious goals

A. A Global Youth Climate Change Bill by the youth for the youth

Gathering Global Youth Ambassadors from each country to sign a Global Youth Climate Change Bill that is ambitious, fair, and binding. As young citizens, we are responsible in the development of global policies that provide ourselves a framework in moving on further in the green agenda.

B. Provide innovative solutions to ensure that the Millennium Development Goals are met by 2015

Climate change presents significant threats to the achievement of the MDGs especially those related to eliminating poverty and hunger and promoting environmental sustainability. Our generation must mobilize to provide poverty eradication methods and sustainable development objectives that ensures the achievement of the MDGs.

C. The Global Youth Climate Change Center

The center will become a symposium where the youth can gain more hindsight on the effects of the degradation of Climate Change, and work with leading academics to find innovative and constructive solutions to Climate Change.

The world is facing unprecedented environmental and social challenges. We need to gather with new ways of thinking, new cultural values, and new ways of organizing society. We have the resources and technology available. We have the ability to present innovative solutions to solve the global challenges that we are facing. We need to bring our international efforts together not only in the mitigation of Climate Change but also provide resources for the adaptation of the impacts of Climate Change. Copenhagen is the most appropriate time to develop an international youth climate movement.

We are in this together,

Esperanza Garcia

Youth Assembly at the United Nations & YOU Feedback

From Esperanza Garcia Blog: http://ecohope.blogspot.com/

The success of the workshop would not have been possible without the help from the IYC family. Would like to thank the support from the International Youth council members, Jaime Ansorge, Asha Castleberry, and Miguel Toro- an AMAZING, accomplished team of Global Youth Leaders- who have been an inspiration to many, including myself. We were an amazing team at the workshop- and IYC brought us together!

Dear World Youth Leaders,

The "YA UN and YOU" Workshop at the UN last month was a success! To inspire one is more than enough, but to inspire a battalion of Young Global Leaders, is overwhleming.

Thank you all for all your support and keep on rocking doing what you do to help save the world. THIS WORLD NEEDS YOU. Together, we are so powerful. Know that the possibilities are endless, we can accomplish anything.

With Love,

Dear Angela and Esperanza:

I would like to thank you and the team who made possible that your workshop.
In my opinion the three day at Youth Asssembly was a great experience that inspired me and made me think about all the things WE need to do to make a positive impact in the world and make the difference from every person that's in it.
On the other hand, your workshop was a success the way you made it happen! With your workshop, not only, I managed to find a way to make possible the ideas I had in my mind but also to share them with people that has the same interests as I do, and that is AWESOME!! Together we can make THE difference!

Thank you very much and good luck on your future projects!

Best Regards,

Yes, the workshop just sets the stage for continued collaboration. Already you are taking your rightful place working alongside those who are only chronologically older than you are, but this is not about youth/older persons, it is about our uniques gifts at this moment in time. What I strongly urge all of you to do is to follow carefully the meeting of the UN Security Council that President Obama will chair at the time of the Comprehensive Test Ban meeting on Sept. 24-25. Indeed this is will be a unique day in history, as the President has also invited the heads of state of all the other SC members, which means the entire P5 could be there. If your organization is accredited to the UN, then check the Reaching Critical Will website and apply. continue the momentum.

Hey Esperanza & Angela

YOu guys did an incredible job. As Pia said the Youth Assembly was am amazing experiance, but your workshoop really tied things together in my opinion. It was great to come in contact with people that had the same ideas, and goals as you did. I am more motivted then ever to keep working, and i have people that I can contact, even if I just have a question. Now I know for a fact that if we work together we can make a difference. I also look foward to working with you guys.

Esperanza,

I was inspired by your courage in sharing deeply about your personal situation and yet still trying your best to positively impact the lives of others. I hope you are able to achieve all your dreams and then some.

My current long term goals lie in the area of making energy better for the environment and available to the developing world. Lets work together for a better world for all of our children to come!

Esperanza,

Thank you for your words of inspiration and encouragement. You're right - as youth, we have the potential to change the world; not only tomorrow, but today.

This was my first time at the UN Youth Assembly and it moved me in ways I never expected. It wasn't only wonderful to be blessed by the presence and words of people like Dr. Gandhi and Hou Bin, but it was even more meaningful to meet incredible youth doing incredible things (yourself included, ofcourse)!

I was inspired by last week's meeting to start a project that profiles young leaders and drills down to the core of why they do what they do. My goal for this is to ignite a wave of dormant social change agents to do what they can and do it now!

Best,

Hey Angela & Esperanza,

Both you rocked and did an astonishingly unbelievable job in conducting your workshop at the UN Youth Assembly. The liveliness and the energy out there was remarkable.

The three days at the Assembly had made me realize my potential and the potential of youth across the globe. How there are so many misconceptions about our capabilities. The workshop specifically made me grasp the fact that we as young individuals are a resource in ourselves and can do a lot.
Also it helped us to network better than ever. I made more contacts in that 45 minutes compared to the entire three days of the conference. Can you believe it?

I was hoping that the whole UN Youth Assembly would turn out to be and interactive as your workshop, which it wasn’t. Your workshop as Pia have exclaimed has helped many of us in an immense way.

Your workshop helped me meet people that share similar interests to mine. Thanks a lot. Because of your workshop I have actually started a facebook group with all the people I met at your conference and we are planning to take our plan forward.

I wish you all the luck for whatever you do and all your future projects and I’m all there if you need any kind of help.

The kind of spirit we as young people have today; we can make a big difference.

Cheers.

To our future world leaders

From Esperanza Garcia Blog: http://ecohope.blogspot.com/

Global Youth Leaders & International Youth Council Team
(l to r) Asha Castleberry, Jamie Ansorge, Esperanza Garcia, Angela Jhanji, Miguel Toro

Our future world leaders,

It was an honor to meet all of you, and for those that I had the pleasure to meet again, it was so great to finally see you. For those of you who took the time to come to the YAUN and You workshop, thank you for making it a big success. We had a lot of great feedback, and it was due to your presence that the workshop was successful.

Hearing of your story and your aspirations leaves me only inspired and even more hopeful for a future that needs dire change. We can not solve the challenges of our time unless we do them together. We may have different stories, We may not look the same, We may not all come from the same place, but we all want the same thing.

We can be the greatest generation, WE ARE THE GREATEST GENERATION. This is our moment, this is our time. Together, we will transform the world, towards a better future, for our children and our grand children.

Looking forward to working on projects with you, and I hope we cross paths again soon.

The 6th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations

The founding vision and principles of the International Youth Council were formed at the 4rd Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations. Twelve youth leaders from around the world met and discussed their ideas for an organization that could speak up for youth values and perspectives at the United Nations, and also work to empower other youths to help the world achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

Two years later we have members across the globe, we have aided key development projects in almost every global region, and most importantly - we have saved both lives and livelihoods.

This year - This August 5th to 7th - The IYC's leadership will be attending the 6th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations again for another round of inspirational programming, networking, and planning for the future.

We hope to work with the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation (www.faf.org) to build upon our experiences of the past, and to empower the young leaders present to both build lasting relationships, to learn new skills, and to achieve real sustainable international development.

We do hope that you will apply and that we will see you there.

Also, the IYC's leadership will be meeting in New York over the next 3 weeks to plan our workshop at the Assembly "The Youth Assembly and You", and also several future projects and partnerships. For more information, please contact me at Jamie.Ansorge@Gmail.com.

IYC Mission

The International Youth Council (IYC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded at the UN Youth Assembly in 2007 dedicated to giving young people across the world both collective voice and a mechanism to support global sustainable development.

Our mission is to bring together and support young leaders from around the world in pursuit of partnership, progress, and the Millennium Development Goals. We seek to empower the next generation of leaders by providing them with the training, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed. We also advocate for an official body representative of the youth within the United Nations power structure.

We hope to inspire the youth of the world to act and give them the tools to make a difference.
